Vicki Mason’s Promises to keep jewels are a response to curator Kevin Murray’s brief (outlined below in italics) to make work for an exhibition titled’ Voveo’. How do you "make" a promise? Every culture has its own ways of building trust in what we say to each other. Many of these involve jewellery, such as the engagement ring. But there are other needs that go unattended.
He goes on to say, ‘Nine artists have created objects that help us to make a commitment, to ourselves or to others. Imagine what changes these seeds might bring. Consider how you might use these in your own life. Wear the change’.
